In many applications we need to make sure that the system we developed must remain in a specific orientation like in robotics or vehicles on the road or big machinery working in dangerous environment. These systems pose a threat to the lives and safety of the surrounding workers or other living things if they have an accident and crash while their electrical systems are still working. To counter this threat, we have this Mercury Ball Tilt Switch sensor which detects the inclination of the system with respect to the vertical axis and automatically turn off the switch if the inclination exceeds above a specific angular limit. This will come handy if your machinery falls like bike crash and other accidents as it will turn off the electrical supply and thereby minimising the risk of fire by short circuiting. It has a mercury ball in between the terminals in the glass enclosure which moves around and completes or breaks the circuit with its movement.
