In modern days Microcontroller comes with Analog to Digital converter but there are few instances where these peripheral supports are not available. One classic example is the 8051 series microcontroller units. In such cases, ADC0809 could provide an 8-bit Analog to digital interface that can be very useful. It is also used with the Raspberry Pi as well.

The ADC0809 data acquisition component is based on the monolithic CMOS with an 8-bit analog-to-digital converter, 8-channel multiplexer and microprocessor compatible control logic. These 0809 converters feature a high impedance chopper stabilized comparator, a 256R voltage divider with analog switch tree and a successive approximation register. The 8-channel multiplexer can directly access any of 8-single-ended analog signals.

Input ranges from 0V to the input Vcc, could run through a single supply with 5V, has very low power operations limited to 15mW and the conversion Time is as fast as 100us.
