In most of the control engineering applications where precise rotation and high torque to rotate the heavy equipment is required. Since stepper motor are controlled by series of electromagnetic coils where rotor is made up of a permanent magnet and the surrounding coils is alternatively powered to create magnetic fields to rotate the rotor and this magnetic field controls the final position of the rotor. This is a unipolar motor as at a time only one pole is powered at any time. To drive this motor you will need a motor driver module like ULN2003 Controller Board with which we can control the Motor from the microcontroller board. They can be used in robotics, toys, antennas, ant drives etc. like applications which do not require high speed to operate but holding torque.

The ULN2003 IC is a 5V triggered input board which means each Darlington pair input can be controlled by 5V control input from the development board like Arduino. Each output pin is 5V rated and can provide 500mA. As we are controlling only 4 phases so there are only 4 control inputs given on the Controller board.
